Because you never know…
Last June, I attended my college Reunion. Truth be told, it was the first Reunion I ever attended. I’m not sure what inspired me to attend, and I did so with some trepidation. Would I know anyone? Would anyone remember me?
As it turns out, yes, and yes.
I re-united with my freshman roommate, and another friend from down the hall freshman year. I re-united with my favorite faculty member who is retiring this year. I fell back in love with Wellesley, though I never really fell out of love.
And I got a job.
I wasn’t looking for a job. In fact, I have been thinking of winding down, stepping back, moving on.
Instead, I got a job — not any job, what I would consider a dream job. Had you asked me prior to Reunion if I would ever have ended up here, I would have said “no way.” It was in another state, I was already employed, there was no opening. In fact, this job had never existed before.
And all I had to do to get it was show up, and be open to the possibilities.
All of which is to say, always be networking. Because you never know.
